This is a good “starter” macro lens for beginning to take closeups and wide angles. It’s not the best but if you’re wanting to try something out before investing a lot, this would be a choice.

Got this for my Canon M50, however, it seems this one is for the Mark II Canon M50, so I had to pull out an additional adapter ring to fit my kit lens. No worries…I had one, and the results are beautiful. The Auto focus in video is now a bit slower, mostly because (I think) the optical sensor now has more to process, and there are a bunch more ounces out at the end of the lens, but it’s all good.Honestly, I haven’t tried to get any Macro Shots with this as I have my gear pretty much dedicated to doing video, but given the clarity of the glass, I doubt there should be any issues. It’s a very very nicely machined piece with a beautiful matte black finish. Little carry bag was a nice touch as well.

Using the NEEWER 55mm 0.43X HD 2 in 1 Wide Angle & Macro Lens (hereinafter in this review called the “Neewer WA/M Lens”) is a mixed bag of extreme affordability when measured against two separate lenses to get the same effect albeit with a concurrent loss of clarity. Perhaps clarity isn’t the proper word to use, but I am using it in place of saying, sharpness, color, control, etc. The point being that the two picture taken through this lens will not equal a picture taken with a dedicated macro lens and a picture taken with a dedicated wide angle lens. A lens like this is the perfect example of where “two for the price of one”m does NOT apply.Realize that I am not saying that the pictures taken through the “Neewer WA/M Lens” are of terrible quality. They’re not. It’s just that the quality is not up to the quality you’ll get with dedicated lenses. In this case I was using a Nikon D750 with a Nikkor AF 50mm 1:18 lens set on Aperture control for f11 and ISO 1000; I was comparing two pictures of the same scene outside my house and two pictures at maximum closeness of a drink coaster. You can compare those pictures attached hereto.Putting aside the quality aspect of this lens the mechanics of it bear some comments as well. For some reason that I don’t understand, but will figure out sooner or later, the “Neewer WA/M Lens” will not work with MC filters between it and the lens. Further, again for reasons yet to be understood by me, the lens will not work with automatic settings but did fine with the camera set to full manual and aperture control. The lens itself works fine with both elements for wide angle shots but for macro shots the wide angle element must be unscrewed from the macro element. Finally, unless the thread size of your lens’ outer ring is, with this “Neewer WA/M Lens,” 55mm you must use the proper size adapter ring; in my case it was a 52 to 55mm.I know this sounds like a lot of work to get your wide angle and/or macro shots and to a certain extent it is. But each photographer must decide for him or herself whether the cost of dedicated lenses overcomes the extra work and lessened quality of using the “Neewer WA/M Lens.” For me, I will use the “Neewer WA/M Lens” until I can afford the separate lenses that I really want (which I’ve already done for macro shooting and hopefully will be able to do for ultra wide angle before much too longer). However long that may be I would rate the “Neewer WA/M Lens” at a soft 4 star in that it gets the job done with moderate to good results and minimal, if any, distortion. I hope this review helps and that if you are in the market for an acceptable stop gap before you buy separate macro and Ultra Wide Angle lenses you will consider, and keep, the “Neewer WA/M Lens” on your comparison list.
