I picked up this cold shoe mount after buying the Insta360 X5, knowing that some X4 accessories are still compatible. Technically, this mount is compatible—it attaches underneath the camera using the 1/4″ thread and works great for clippable microphones like the DJI or Maono wireless systems.However, the X5’s mic location is different. I don’t have the X5 mic adapter yet to fully test, but I did mock it up with my old X3 mic adapter (which looks identical). From my testing, the cold shoe fits fine and can hold an external mic securely, but the mic cable will be too short with the X5’s new design. Also, I can’t guarantee the setup will be “invisible” until I can actually test it with the real X5 mic adapter.Just a heads-up for X5 owners: the built-in microphones on the X5 are really good already, and with the new built-in windscreens, you might not even need an external mic setup in most situations.Overall, this cold shoe mount is a solid, lightweight option for attaching a mic or small accessories—it’s just not fully plug-and-play for the X5 mic adapter setup.
