   Sony A7 series and A6000 series cameras have no PC sync outlet to trigger an off-camera, studio-style flash, or a radio transmitter. You’re supposed to buy the infrared wireless flash system that Sony offers to go with the cameras.I have a nice bunch of Nikon speedlights that I used as off-camera flashes for years with Pocket Wizards as triggers. After switching to Sony, I wanted to keep using these great Nikon flashes in Manual mode as off-camera flashes.I tried the Velo brand hot shoe adapters that are supposed to activate a PC sync on the side of the adapter, but they didn’t work. A few photographers on the DP Review blog had the same issues with the Velo brand hot shoe adapters, and no one had a solution.Then I found this adapter. The Pocket Wizard, when plugged into the PC sync on this hot shoe adapter, allows the Sony A7siii camera to trigger my old workhorse flashes! Soooo great!One caveat: The adapter will not trigger the Pocket Wizard when it’s sitting on top of the adapter. It’s the PC synch that’s firing, so you have to use a synch cord, even if the Pocket Wizard is sitting in the shoe on top of the adapter. I even got advice from another photographer that it’s probably wise to mount the Pocket Wizard with velcro to the side of the camera to prevent electrical surges from affecting the camera’s electrical system. Since the hot shoe is firing through the PC sync, the Pocket Wizard could be mounted anywhere within the reach of the cord.
