I love having this product! It gives me versatility and flexibility when I am doing my photography either inside by using electrical outlets or outside by using an appropriate power pack. The thing is I have two power packs that can work with this product or be used to power lights, etc… but if I didn’t have this then best case, I would have to have multiple batteries and a means to charge them in the field and that is just not as practical many times. With this dummy battery I can take time lapse photos without worrying about the battery dying, I can do video without battery worries or I go on extended photo shoots in the woods with this and the right power pack and I am fine.An added bonus is it is much less than the OEM equipment. I recommend this product (with the caveat that if you intend to use power packs you need to be sure they are capable of supporting it, but you’d need that even if you went OEM).

The Ronfen EP-5B dummy battery works great in my Nikon Z5 and Z6. I can get endless power without worrying about monitoring battery life and changing lights in the middle of sessions. There is a sufficient amount of cable to travel a decent distance. You do need to be sure that you do not stretch too far as the connectors can uncouple and leave you powerless.I also use this dummy battery while connected to a power bank. I can put the power bank in a pocket or a bag that I have on and get much longer battery life than the stock batteries could ever provide. It makes for a great option on those long photo shoots or while doing nature and street photography.I love having a dummy battery for video use because shooting at high video quality modes are really taxing on the original batteries and will drain them relatively fast. This allows you to use max settings and record until you run out of space or until the camera enters thermal protection mode.This is a great accessory for any photographer that owns any camera using the EN-EL15 series batteries.

This device consists of three main parts. Aside from the instruction sheet there is the 30W charger (with both USB and USB-C ports), the cable with the Converter, and a short cable with the false battery. The model I tested was the Nikon D810. Your camera may work differently. I basically had no trouble assembling and inserting the device as a battery. On the D810 the battery door stayed open. I was able to auto focus and take pictures without any difficulty. Five-Stars for this! However, where I did have trouble was in using the CH and CL or multi-shot modes. I was able to press down and take several shots but sooner or later the shutter froze and and an “Err” flashed. I interpreted this as the shutter not getting enough power. It does not do this with the standard battery. I first had a Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm 1:2.8GII ED lens mounted (telephoto lens) and considered if it were the size of the thing that might be taxing the device. So going the other direction I mounted a AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8G lens. The small glass had the same problem. In both cases, waiting a second and pressing the trigger returned the camera to normal function. So I’m going to call this a “Con” for the device. If you are planning on taking portraits and just shoot single shots this works fine. Because of the cable (and in my case the open battery door) a stand would work best anyway. I did not test working the device on an external battery but one could use a pocket power pack and take it in to the field. Because of the issue I had I can only give it four stars.
